SELECT ACTIVITIES
- Democratic Development and Citizen Participation Phase 3 —Bolivia (2003-2006) DevTech was a member of the ICMA Team that implemented USAID’s Democratic Development and Citizen Participation Project Phase 3 (DDPC3). The team promoted and enhanced citizen participation, municipal management and governance, service delivery, local economic development, and institution strengthening in Bolivia. DDPC3 helped create sustainable municipal governments and supported organizations that were able to plan, implement, and sustain infrastructure and service projects, and promoted economic growth, while effectively including women and indigenous communities in the governance process.
- Guatemala Decentralization and Local Governance USAID/Guatemala (2005-2009) DevTech is the prime contractor on USAID's Decentralization and Local Governance program in Guatemala. In this capacity, DevTech is providing direct technical assistance and coordinating assistance by national-level institutions to improve the capacity and resources available to selected municipalities and mancomunidades in Guatemala. DevTech is also working with municipal development councils and other citizen groups to support a more active role of these groups in the decision-making process, with a particular focus on gender and ethnic equity. In addition to its intensive technical assistance in selected municipalities and mancomunidades, DevTech is working at the national-level to strengthen municipal associations and support decentralization policy with an emphasis on addressing the problem of municipal debt and devolving taxation authority.
- Macedonia Competitiveness Activity USAID (2003-2006) Under this activity, DevTech supports Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc. to build the competitiveness of Macedonian enterprises in domestic, regional and global markets. DevTech provides technical assistance in integrating gender into this activity. Key activities include:
- Gender Analysis to determine the current economic situation for women and men in Macedonia and how this situation influences what choices they make.
- Gender Training for MCA Staff in gender integration strategies as well as on how to gather and analyze sex-disaggregated data for reporting to USAID and the host-country government.
- Supporting the Business Women’s Networking Group for the purpose of encouraging Macedonian women to network with other women like themselves to share information and advocate on important gender issues.
- Monitoring and evaluation of ongoing gender integration and data collection/reporting.
- Safe Schools Program (2003-2008) is a five-year USAID contract designed to reduce school-related gender-based violence (SRGBV), improve educational outcomes and reduce negative health outcomes. DevTech's program involves district-level interventions in Ghana and Malawi, and works closely in both countries with governmental and civil society stakeholders to produce evidence-based findings to improve educational opportunities for girls and boys.
