Sustainability in Practice: Development and the Environment

DevTech holds several indefinite quantity contracts (IQCs) related to the environment:

DevTech is a key partner on the USAID/Worldwide Integrated Water and Coastal Resources Management IQC (Water IQC II).

DevTech provides technical assistance related to biodiversity conservation and natural resources management through the Prosperity, Livelihoods and Conserving Ecosystems (PLACE) IQC.

The USAID/Worldwide, Environmental Policy and Institutional Strengthening (EPIQ II) provides USAID access to support related to policy, multilateral agreements, global climate change, public-private partnerships, and institutional development.

The USAID/Worldwide, Sustainable Urban Management (SUM II) includes a component for environmental management.

DevTech also provides environmental services under the GSA-Schedule Management, Organizational, and Business Improvement Services (MOBIS), Women in Development IQC (prime) and SEGIR/CLIR.

Initiated in 1994, the DevTech Environment practice promotes sustainable economic growth while maintaining and enhancing the natural resource base. The firm works across several broad subsectors within its environmental practice.

Environmental Compliance and Knowledge Management
DevTech supports international development agencies and their partners to achieve objectives through improved environmental and knowledge management systems. Specifically, DevTech:

  • Leads efforts to ensure Compliance with federal environmental regulations and procedures
  • Conducts Biodiversity and Forestry Assessments
  • Designs and maintains Knowledge Management systems to monitor environmental information

Water and Coastal Resource Management

DevTech provides technical support and guidance in ensuring equitable access to water, which is one of the most economically undervalued resources on the planet.  In recent years, the firm has provided services in:

  • Conducting assessments of Water Managment Strategies to promote sustainable water management
  • Analyzing Wastewater and Water Treatment Technology options

Natural Resource Management
DevTech collaborates with governments, the private sector, and civil society in developing countries to foster a sound and stable economic environment. In this area, DevTech has provided support by:

  • Delivering trainings and conducting assessments in Institution Building and Strengthening
  • Designing Cross-cutting Solutions to integrate environmental considerations into broader development initiatives

Technology Transfer, Trade, and Investment in Infrastructure
DevTech works with national and sub-national governments to achieve sound fiscal policies to support environmental trade, the transfer of appropriate technologies, and investment. The firm has worked with:

  • Developing management systems for, and facilitating delegations related to, Trade and Technology Transfer.
  • Designing, delivering, and analyzing environmental Project Preparation and Finance plans and protocols.

 

FEATURED ACTIVITIES

  • DevTech provides Environmental Compliance Support Services to the Bureau for Europe and Eurasia and the Missions to help them meet their objectives of environmental compliance with federal regulations and procedures through developing appropriate management information systems, training, and special reporting.
  • DevTech led a Biodiversity Assessment team for USAID/Cyprus to comply with Section 119 of the Foreign Assistance Act in preparation for the USAID/Cyprus new country strategic plan.
              • The firm led Biodiversity Analyses in Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova.
              • DevTech provides accurate and timely information for and about USAID's water and coastal resources management activities through the Water Tracking, Estimating, and Reporting Support (WATERS) Program.
              • DevTech assisted the West Africa Water Initiative (WAWI) by integrating gender into project activities. WAWI focuses its work in three countries in West Africa: Ghana, Mali, and Niger. The goals of the initiative embrace the principle of sound water management, and by 2008 the project is expected to reach more than one-half million people with new water wells, water resources, and latrines.
              • DevTech conducted portfolio assessments and trainings to integrate gender into conservation and natural resource management strategies in Mexico and the Philippines.
