Economic and Social Data Services (ESDS)
U.S. Agency for International Development (1995-2000)

The USAID Center for Development Information and Evaluation (CDIE) Economic and Social Data Service project provides a wide range of analytic and technical support services to maintain the Economic and Social Data Base (ESDB) and to sustain ESDS and its corollary work with USAID central and regional bureaus, and field missions. The professional analysts who comprise the DevTech ESDS staff are trained in the use of sophisticated computer software applications and statistical research techniques, and employ up-to-date electronic technologies that allow for the access, exchange, and manipulation of large international databases. The ESDS core staff are charged with maintaining, managing, and expanding the ESDB. The ESDS liaison analysts provide demand-driven, analytical services in response to USAID regional bureau requirements for quantitative research, methodology development, econometric modeling, macroeconomic policy analysis, special socioeconomic studies, and performance monitoring and evaluation efforts. Further, the ESDS staff provide economic and social data measures and inputs that track country development trends; provide technical support for special mission projects and initiatives; and serve as the Agency focal point for coordinating and harmonizing socioeconomic data from a wide and disparate range of sources.
