Education vs. the Challenges of Globalization German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) Honduras (2000)
The educational system in Honduras is at the initial stages of a profound reform that will ultimately lead to its adaptation to the human training needs of the next millennium. This effort has given priority attention to the reform of the elementary education system, which initiatives are already underway, and which, at this time, should be reviewed. In order to collaborate with the government and society of Honduras in the crucial review of this reform process, the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), along with other local organizations, sponsored a meeting to discuss the topic "What do the Schools Demand from the Active World? Towards an Elementary Education that Integrates the Right Skills for the Best Jobs of Tomorrow. The SCANS Experience." As part of this brainstorming effort, two magisterial conferences were planned: the first, to stress the importance of globalization and the challenges it poses to educational systems; the second, to present how Americans have been able to respond to these challenges through the work of the SCANS Commission.
GTZ invited DevTech to participate in this conference to discuss the following subject: "Education versus the Challenges of Globalization". As part of its participation DevTech:
Explained the significance of globalization and the economic and work changes it brings about as well as what shall become of the jobs of tomorrow. It also discussed capital circulation and the role of employment in human resources.
Presented the challenges created by these changes on education and, in general, on the investment of human capital, and stressed the fact that governments and societies must undertake significant measures to successfully face these challenges.
Participated in the remainder of the event, delivering precise comments during the second conference and providing answers to several issues that arose from the general discussion.
