Center for Applied Studies in Economics (CASE)

As an extension of its commitment to furthering the cause of international economic development, DevTech has established a Center for Applied Studies in Economics (CASE), to conduct and disseminate the results of its research. CASE has identified a number of areas of particular interest for study. These include:

  • Macroeconomics of developing and transitioning economies
  • Institutional economics
  • Implementing policy reforms
  • Finance and development
  • Macroeconomic planning and the fiscal sector
  • Economics and management of the public sector
  • Social sector economics

CASE affiliates undertake research in these areas, publish the results of the research, participate in conferences, and work with other members of DevTech's staff to ensure that lessons learned are incorporated into our advisory activities.

In addition to publishing in external organs, CASE disseminates research findings in CASE Studies, its series of monographs and issue papers. The economists who are affiliated with the CASE have varied backgrounds, with advanced degrees in macroeconomics, international finance and trade, political economy, agriculture, natural resources, and development. They share a desire not only to contribute to the improvement of economic conditions worldwide but also to ensure that the benefits derived from their research can be applied to other projects, both within and outside of DevTech.

To this end, CASE's economists meet on a regular basis to discuss their ongoing work - both for DevTech and for CASE - and to determine whether and where synergies exist. They share information gleaned from their research and lessons learned from ongoing project work. As appropriate, they provide an internal peer-review system for one another's papers and presentations, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and relevance to the international development community.
